Chandigarh → Narkanda

Narkanda → Sangla
- Drive via Rampur and Karcham.

Sangla → Chitkul → Kalpa
- Morning excursion to Chitkul (last inhabited village near the

Kalpa → Nako → Tabo

- Drive via Losar and Kunzum Pass.

- Overnight stay in camps near Chandratal.

Chandratal → Manali
- Cross Batal, Gramphu, and Atal Tunnel.
- Reach Manali.
- Evening at leisure.
- Overnight stay at Manali.
Day 9
Manali Local Sightseeing
- Visit Hadimba Temple.
- Visit Vashisht Temple & Hot Springs.
- Explore Club House, Mall Road, and Van Vihar.

Manali → Chandigarh
- After breakfast, drive back to Chandigarh.

The best time to visit Spiti Valley depends on what you're looking for:
May to June (Best overall): Pleasant weather (10–20°C), roads usually open, snow still visible on high passes, and ideal for sightseeing, biking, and trekking.
July to August: Lush landscapes and relatively warm weather. While Spiti itself gets little rain, the approach from Manali can be affected by landslides due to the monsoon. The Shimla–Kinnaur route is generally a safer choice during this period.
September to mid-October (Highly recommended): Clear blue skies, crisp weather, fewer tourists, stunning autumn colors, and excellent photography conditions.
November to April (Winter): Extremely cold (down to -20°C or lower), heavy snowfall, many roads closed, and only suitable if you want a true winter adventure and can handle harsh conditions.

The two main ways to reach Spiti Valley are:
🚗 1. Via Shimla–Kinnaur — best for most of the year
Delhi/Chandigarh → Shimla → Reckong Peo → Nako → Tabo → Kaza
Longer route, but generally the more reliable approach.
You gradually gain altitude, which is better for acclimatization.
Best option when the Manali–Kaza route is closed.
Allow roughly 2–3 days to reach Kaza comfortably.
🏔️ 2. Via Manali — spectacular and faster
Delhi/Chandigarh → Manali → Atal Tunnel → Kunzum Pass → Losar → Kaza
Much more dramatic scenery.
Usually possible only during the summer/autumn road-opening window because of snow at Kunzum Pass.
You can reach Kaza from Manali in roughly 8–12 hours when the road is in good condition, but it's a demanding journey.
Kunzum Pass is around 4,550 m, so altitude and road conditions matter.
🚌 Public transport
You can combine buses:
Delhi/Chandigarh → Shimla → Reckong Peo → Kaza
HRTC buses are the main public-transport option. Services and timings can change seasonally, so check current schedules before leaving.
✈️ By flight
There is no commercial airport in Spiti Valley. The closest practical airports are around Bhuntar (Kullu) and Shimla, but you'll still need a long road journey.
My recommendation: If this is your first Spiti trip, do a Shimla → Kinnaur → Spiti → Manali circuit. You get gradual acclimatization and experience both major approaches.
